Supporting Local Businesses

Updated: Jun 8, 2020

A key way to support the Black Lives Matters movement is to make donations - many local business and independent artists island-wide are doing their bit to contribute to the Black Lives Matters movement; from selling art to making t-shirts to making jewellery, with the proceeds going to important organisations and charities. Here are a few of our favourites that you can support..

Kelsey Woodford Kelsey @kel.wdford is designing and selling both t-shirts and A6 prints in aid of the Black Lives Matter movement. To support Kelsey please go to her instagram and directly message her of your order.

Skye's Shutters Skye @skyes.shutters has curated a series of digital drawings with A6 prints for sale through her instagram. You can message Skye directly to find out about print costs and choosing which prints you would like.

"I am selling illustrations of my photography in return for a minimum donation of £5, with all profits going to Black Lives Matter. What happened in America really opened my eyes and encouraged me to learn about the injustices towards the lives black people. I am so frustrated and angry at myself and feel so much guilt for the privilege I have taken for granted for so long, and cannot believe it has taken another public brutality for me to become this active in this movement. If my artwork and my skill set can help people to educate themselves on how important this is and encourage people to donate, take action and centre black voices then I am all for it." - Skye Reed

Lily Hutchings

Lily @lilbettte is creating beautifully colourful graphic earrings with a range from large 70s inspired disc earrings to small studs. 100% of proceeds go to Lily's chosen BLM charity.

"The few hours I spent making these is an incomparable amount of time to the years of discrimination, fear and anguish suffered by the black community, at the hands of a corrupt and overtly racist society." - Lily Hutchings

Please let us know of any island business you are aware of that are doing their part in donating/raising awareness for BLM charities, we would be more than happy to feature them and share the good they are doing for the movement, as well as promoting local talent.
